San Jose Christian School students have plenty of opportunities to stay active and engage in various activities outside the classroom that support the curriculum and allow for the unique interests and needs of students. We are committed to the growth of the whole child, and for this reason, students are encouraged to explore and be creative in many co-curricular and enrichment activities.

The Bible instructs us in the following way: I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1 (NIV) At SJCS, students participate in physical education to learn skills in various sports, learn how to stay physically fit for good health, and develop skills for teamwork. As students learn to develop, care for, and honor God with their bodies, they increase their endurance, strength, knowledge and empathy for others.

God has blessed our students with so many artistic talents, giving them a taste of His own creativity. SJCS is a school that recognizes these talents and supports the efforts of students to refine their skills and use them for the glory of God. Through music, students improve self-confidence, self-expression and self-discipline while at the same time blessing others through performance. Students in Elementary school have music twice a week where they learn to read music, instrumentation and history of music. In Middle School, students can choose Band, Choir and/or Jazz Band  to further pursue music. Student performances throughout the year are highlights as students share their talents with the community.

San Jose Christian recognizes the place of the fine arts in the development of the whole child.  God is the Creator, and He has given us each an ability to be creative. We practice patience and encouragement so we might learn from our mistakes and each other. As students grow in their knowledge of art, it is our hope they will take these experiences and share their art to bring joy, beauty, and truth to God’s world. We invite you to come and see, touch, play, sing, listen, view, and appreciate with us. Come and join us at our next performance or production!

Students are growing up in a complex, technology-driven, information- saturated world.  Today’s world requires a set of skills necessary for students to thrive in college and beyond, and most of those skills are directly related to technology.  For this reason, SJCS Middle Schoolers have a 1:1 laptop program and use Google classroom for assignments and communication. Students in the preschool and elementary use laptops or iPads from our mobile labs. These devices support and enrich our curriculum, instruction and assessment and better prepare students to meet the demands of the 21st century. We have a unique opportunity to teach students how to use technology in ways that bring glory and honor to God.  The message of SJCS is that technology, like every other aspect of the Christian life, ought to be used in the service of our God and King.

The SJCS Library contains more the 8,000 books and print resources in fiction, nonfiction, and reference materials. In the library, students learn literacy skills the support the classroom curriculum along with the personal interests of the students. Instilling a love for reading is our goal! Along with the formal Library, each classroom maintains a class library with reading material appropriate for each grade level.

God has uniquely knit together every individual (fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalm 139).  San Jose Christian School commits to offering the best education possible for their students.  The Learning Center program provides a variety of assistance to teachers, parents, and students in grades JK-8th.

Primarily, the Learning Center program provides instruction and support for students in grades 1–5 who are experiencing difficulty in phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, reading, comprehension, and written expression. Curriculum and methods of instruction are Orton-Gillingham based and provide a systematic and multi-sensory approach to learning. This pull-out program provides 40–90 minutes of instruction per day. There is an additional tuition fee for this program.

In addition, the Learning Center provides support for all teachers and parents in better understanding the learning styles of children by offering classroom observations and parent conferences, recommends tools, strategies, and accommodations for the classroom and home, provides recommendations for outside resources, and completes basic evaluations in the areas of phonological processing, achievement, and oral language. There is an additional cost for evaluations.

Our Middle School Student Advocate provides basic support for students who have academic difficulties. Support is provided through parent/teacher/student conferences, creating accommodation plans and overseeing the implementation of those accommodations.

Experiential and active learning promotes authentic knowledge, and SJCS  students do this through multi-day field trips. Beginning in 4th grade, students participate in these trips that are an integral part of the curriculum. Trips include:

  • 4th grade to Gold Country

  • 5th grade to Mission Springs Science Camp

  • 6th grade environmental studies trip

  • 7th grade Spiritual Retreat

  • 8th grade Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, OR

These trips are not only academic, but they allow students to grow in relationship and understanding with each other. Team building and corporate prayer are parts of each trip.

Extended Care is offered after school each day until 5:00pm as well as on a limited basis on minimum days and teacher work days. Students have opportunities to complete homework, work on special projects, and build relationships through free time. The fees for Extended Care can be found in our current Tuition Policies and is charged based on actual hours in attendance.

Camp SJCS is a robust and exciting camp full of activities, events and field trips for students entering Kindergarten through 8th grade. Each themed week is packed with summer fun and learning! Middle School campers enjoy a separate program with an opportunity to work on leadership skills as counselors in training, along with enjoying fun camp activities for their age group as well.

After-school clubs provide SJCS students with an excellent opportunity to explore a wide range of educational experiences not normally found in the standard curriculum. Most clubs are taught by SJCS staff and meet one day per week for six weeks. A club brochure will be sent home each quarter.
