I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Calvin College with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Biology. I currently hold a Michigan Professional Teaching Credential. After 9 years of teaching physical education, science, math, Bible, and social studies at various levels, I chose to pursue graduate school and earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of San Francisco in Catholic School Leadership. As a lifelong learner, I continue to pursue professional development through various online courses. My current fascination is in the area of our brains and how we learn.
I grew up in the vicinity of Grand Rapids, Michigan where my immediate family still lives. Upon graduating from Calvin College, God called me to the San Jose area. I enjoy the beauty of California, but I must admit I miss the awesome colors of fall in the Midwest. When I’m not working, I enjoy camping, walks in the woods or on the beach, and the “sport” of geocaching. When it’s raining, you will probably find me on the couch in front of a fire with a good book.
Christian Philosophy of Education
I am blessed to join the covenant community of San Jose Christian School. While evangelism is the calling for each of us as Christians, God has placed upon my heart the call of discipleship of young believers. The partnership of a Christian school, Christian parents, and churches provides a solid foundation for students as they learn about God as He has revealed Himself to us through general revelation and special revelation. As students are challenged to make their faith their own, we have the opportunity as educators to support students in the formation of a biblical world and life view. In this faith-filled environment students can discover and develop their God-given gifts and talents to the glory of our Heavenly Father in service to His kingdom.
