I graduated in 1995 from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon with a BA in Elementary Education and a Minor in Early Childhood. I began teaching Jr. Kindergarten and then Kindergarten for six years at which time I became pregnant with my first son, Griffin. I switched jobs to focus more on our young son and worked part time as the Children’s Ministry Coordinator at our church until I became pregnant again with our second son, Austin. I then decided to leave the workforce and focus on being a full time mom to two small children. God lead our family to SJCS when our oldest entered first grade. After being involved as a parent for many years, God provided the perfect opportunity for me to get back into teaching by leading me to teach music to our preschool students up to second grade. Over the past few decades I have been involved in both church, traveling choirs, and played hand bells, so this teaching opportunity was truly a blessing from above. I love teaching music and providing the opportunity for children from age 2 up to 2nd grade to experience the joys of music.
I am a native of San Jose, California. I met my husband, Dean, playing softball the summer I graduated from college. We got married three years later. After enjoying some couple time we were blessed to start a family and now have two wonderful sons, Griffin and Austin. Our sons keep us very busy with sports, band, church youth group and school activities. We attend Church at Community Christian in Campbell and are involved in a variety of church activities such as Small Group Bible Study, Youth Group and helping with Sunday morning activities. Our family enjoys spending time together vacationing in Maui, taking trips to Disney World, experiencing tent camping both in the mountains and by the beach as well as visiting family throughout the US.
Christian Philosophy of Education
I believe that God has a special plan for each and every one of us. He has blessed us all with special talents and spiritual gifts. He guides us throughout our lives just as a teacher guides a student to achieve greatness on their educational journey. I feel that it is essential for Christian educators to help children notice all the wonderful, unique gifts that God has given to them and help them use those gifts for His glory. As a Christian educator, I love making music class a fun learning experience that not only glorifies God but encourages each student to want to learn more and build on what they have learned for the future. I feel that I not only have the responsibility to guide my students academically, so they can achieve and succeed beyond the walls of SJCS, but to also help nurture them spiritually as they experience the gifts God has blessed upon them. To help build on this, we sing a special blessing song each day to help remind us that God is with us. “The Lord bless and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give peace.” -Numbers 6:24-26
