Curriculum - Jr. Kindergarten
Junior Kindergarten students
begin learning the alphabet and numbers
and developing listening skills and fine/gross
motor skills. Jr. K students are also instructed
and encouraged to develop social and decision
making skills. These students are characterized
by excitement at discovering God's world.
All curriculum and instruction are based
on Biblical principles.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Bible - God's Family. (Christian
Schools International)
Jr. K students learn about
the Bible primarily through daily stories
and memory verses. Students learn that God
is present in every aspect of their lives
by studying the stories of God's people,
his family, from creation to the birth of
Jesus. Also highlighted are specific teachings
and miracles of Jesus as well as his death
and resurrection.
Math - Developmental Learning
Materials. (Macmillan / McGraw Hill)
Jr. Kindergarten students
investigate concepts such as free exploration
of materials, spatial relationships, patterning,
ordering, numbers, measurement, graphing,
time, and money. They use a wide variety
of manipulatives and activities to begin
understanding these concepts. Some examples
are pattern blocks, building blocks, peg
boards, teddy bear counters, scales, and
clocks.
Language - Developmental
Learning Materials. (Macmillan / McGraw
Hill)
In Jr. Kindergarten, students
build the foundation for reading. They learn
to recognize, form, and speak the letters
using tools like Bobby Bear, an animal
friend, to accompany each letter.
Center activities and key words for each
letter also reinforce the teaching.
Integrated Areas
Music comprises a large part
of the daily routine in Jr. K. Students
spend time learning rhythms, listening to
music, playing with instruments, and singing
songs. The children are taught that music
is an excellent way to praise and worship
God.
Jr Kindergartners also praise
God by developing their creative abilities
through activities which include finger
painting, easel painting, Play-Doh cutting,
gluing, drawing, and coloring.
Computers
Junior Kindergartners visit
the computer lab once a week. They become
aware of the uses of technology, become
familiar with the different parts of a computer,
and learn how to treat them responsibly.
Through the use of educational games and
a word processing program the students'
study of letters and sounds is reinforced.
