Professional Biography:
After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a double major in English and Sociology, I worked in a variety of customer service jobs before being employed as a teacher’s aide for the Santa Clara Unified School District. When my first daughter began pre-school, I started an 11-year adventure as a parent volunteer in the classroom. During this time I took a college course that allowed me to tutor beginning readers in the Lindamood-Bell ADD (Auditory Discrimination in Depth) method of reading phonics. Besides using this method at my two daughters’ school, I also began tutoring students privately in the ADD method. It gave me great satisfaction to see struggling students begin to unlock the mysteries of reading and spelling in the English language. When my older daughter began attending San Jose Christian in 6th grade, I started working at SJCS as a classroom aide before also taking classes that have allowed me to administer the Gesell Developmental Observation.
Personal Biography:
I grew up in the Mountain View/Los Altos area. I have lived in Santa Clara for 27 years with my husband Steve. We have two daughters over 21 and on their own! I enjoy walking and reading, and I participate in a variety of volunteer ministries at Christ Community Church of Milpitas. Vacation Bible School, the Women’s Mentoring Program and the ALPHA ministry are among my favorites.
Christian Philosophy of Education: The author John Maxwell says “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” I believe this applies to our students at SJCS as well. My first job is to see each child as a member of God’s creation worthy of love and respect. As I build loving relationships, it is my hope that I can encourage each student to live up to his or her full potential as student and young Christian believer. As I assess students, it is my goal to see them placed at the proper grade level so they will thrive in the educational environment we offer at SJCS.
